Graf Ultra G3....

Recommended Posts

I noticed that too, I wonder if he gets them re-riveted often. it can't be as supportive/stiff as having all the holes screwed in. also, it looks like those are bauer formfit tongues, could be wrong though. anyone know?

Looks like the Graf felt tongues off from the older styles Graf skates. Those new 2 inch thick moldable tongues on the Ultra line don't do it for me either.

Anybody notice in the second picture Avery has the TUUK holders mounted using only the original Cobra mounting holes? Just something I noticed, not that it should make a difference.

yeah, i see allot of pros that have holders that come with no holes so they drill them themselves, pretty cool

The Ultra G3s arent in production yet. However the Ultra G-35 is out, similar fit...I will be trying these on soon. Anyone know the exact differences in fit between the 2?

The ultra G3 fits a shallower ankle depth where the Ultra G35 fits a slightly deeper ankle depth

I believe the Ultra G35 fits a more narrow heel as well as being slightly more narrow throughout. The Ultra G5 is wider in the heel than the Ultra G35 and deeper than both. The Ultra G9 is the widest and deepest boot out of the bunch.

I went into my LHS ... wanted to get some general information about customs, but ended up being talked out of them. I was coming from One90s which I never really liked that much. Before that I had 609s which I had loved, even though I wasn't 100% sure the skate fit me perfectly. My ankle would slip around a bit unless I really tightened that area down hard.

Anyways, the salesguy told me my foot and heel were narrow and suggested I try on a 703 and an Ultra G3. I tried them on and they did feel like they fit a lot better. However, I thought the Ultra G3 fit me in the heel just a bit better. I played around with the lacing a bit but couldn't get the 703 to be *quite* as snug in the heel.

I understood the two boots were supposed to fit the same, but are they supposed to fit *exactly* the same, or is it plausible that the Ultra boot fits a little better than the 703 ? Truth be told, I would have preferred to buy the 703 because it was significantly cheaper and I also didn't want to buy a super-stiff boot, as I am not playing at a high level (just men's league).

Which brings me to my next question: I was concerned the boot might be too stiff for me. The salesguy told me that the Ultra G3s aren't super stiff and that he didn't think I would have a problem in them. I see some posts here about various Ultras, suggesting that they are very stiff. How do the Ultra G3s rate in terms of stiffness ?

i never find there is a graf boot that is extremely stiff, just because there arent stiffeners in the tongues like with every other brand. not to mention all the grafs are fairly low cut, you are able to get a great knee bend in all of them.

the reason that i have found that there is a difference in fits between the 700 series and the ultra G series is that airnet liner found in the ultra G boots. i fit the 735 extremely well, but i dont fit the ultra G35s that we have at my lhs.i think with the way the liner is, the heels particularly in the 735/G35 703/G3 develop their heel lock in different ways, with regards to padding. so sometimes the 700 series fits better than the G series

I play "men's league" level pickup hockey, and I skate in G3 Ultras.

Stiffness is not an issue with the low cut of these skates. They felt very stiff to begin with, but with some time, started flexing more. But I would say I never noticed a problem from the beginning just because they allow so much freedom to flex. Well, other than the stiffness was pressing on the bruises on my feet from pucks I took while wearing my older skates.

It's possible the Ultras just felt better because of the different liner material, or thicker tongue.
