Anyone use Linux

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm going to make my comp a dual-boot machine tomorrow, I'm running XP home now (going to reformat over the summer, and use either XP Pro or Vista, as I can get both free from my university) and tomorrow I'm going to partition my HD and add Kubuntu. Does anyone on the board use Linux? I know it's about the same as Mac OS as far as running games, which is why i'm keeping XP on it. I'm an engineering student, so I figure it would be useful, if not compulsory, to learn a linux/unix type OS. There's a lot of MS/Apple feuding lately (i'll admit, i'm taking part), so I'm wondering if there are some people that are the 'middle ground' running Linux B)

Ive been using ubuntu for a couple of years. I recently got a copy of Kubuntu which is jsut Ubuntu with the KDE desktop and love it. Its nice to know linux in general. Ubuntu is VERY easy, its very windows like. Its not the most complicated distro, probably one of the most user friendly. Runs fantastic, based on Unix, no viruses, its all good.

I have been using Linux over the past 4 or so years. I have tried several distros but currently Ubuntu is my primary OS on my laptop because of its wide range of hardware support. I also use Debian on my servers, which Ubuntu is based off of... Love the package manager, aptitude...

I also dual boot XP for game support as well as some other software that is required for engineering that is windows only.

If you need some help with anything, don't hesitate to ask...

Okay, just got back from my friend's house, He runs Debian on his laptop, but suggested Kubuntu for me. So after we got my hdd partitioned, we loaded up Kubuntu, and now I have dual boot XP and Kubuntu. Of course, linux is kinda weird to me, but I feel that Kubuntu is pretty user friendly. aptitude is really nice to have, and I'm just hoping i don't run into driver troubles for my external hd and stuff like that, but i don't think it will be a problem. I'll let you know if i have anymore questions, and thanks for the replies!
