Pro players skating in retail?

Recommended Posts

after coming over with some sort of obsession of looking at pro stock equipment and looking at all the mods that they do to their equipment to make it perfect, it led me to the question of do any professional players use any retail equipment? ive been "prostock" skates on ebay with retail tagging, but i always just thought that it was someone on ebay tryin to play it off.

thanks in advance

There was a guy on the bruins this year who went to the LHS in boston and bought wood sticks from them and used them in the game. As far as other stuff goes i get a lot of pro stock skates in and there is no difference between that skate and a consumer model. A pro skate could be a 9 DA with the same lining, tongue, stiffness, etc as the skate i sell to my customers. Its just the way the companies do it for the players. they keep everything on file and custom build every skate to that players specs even if it is the same as stock specs!!

CT, Custom skates involve a bit more than just the liner, stiffness, etc.

Many (probably most) custom skates for NHLers are built on a custom last designed off of each of the player's feet, which allows for the best possible fit for the player.
