Data Backup Program

Recommended Posts

My hard drive is really starting to act crazy. It's an IBM laptop & it doesn't recognize my hard drive very often so I'm going to try & leave it on until I can backup my data.

I just wanted to know the best & easiest way of doing this. I looked at download.com & there are a ton of programs (including free ones) but I can never figure out how to burn the data to a cd. I have a cd burning program that can do that...but my hard drive is like 18 gigs.

I remember a couple years ago I knew a guy that had a program called Ghost & it basically made an image of your hard drive but somehow got all the data onto one cd. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything like that. Is there something like that available for free/cheap?

Thanks.

PS...if anyone can get me a screw that holds the hard drive in place, that would be awesome. I think that's probably what's causing the problem. It's the screw that goes in from the bottom of the laptop & holds the hard drive in place after you slide the hard drive in. It's an IBM A20m thinkpad. Kinda old...but serves its purpose.

Your not going to fit your hard drive of X gigs on a CD which holds less than 800 MB. Your best bet is to get a maxtor one touch. Install the software press 1 button and it backs up your data. It is an external hard drive.

I agree with Vapor.

The Maxtor OneTouch was the best purchase I made last year for my machine. Also, it won't break the bank. Here outside Toronto, 100 GB for $80.

although... if you are having problems with the drive I suggest buying a new HD for the laptop. I would take the old one out and put it in an enclousure (you can get one at most stores liek CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. You pop the hard drive in an enclosure and it becomes an external drive.
