top-shelf 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 As far as energy bars go avoid 'em in my opinion; stick with the stuff God made: oranges, blueberries, bananas. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but most energy bars seem to have a burning sensation in my stomach when I play extra hard or for a long time. If you must use a powerbar type thing, then Clif bars are the way to go; lots of carbs and a dash of protein for a good pre-game pump up. As far as liquids go, I like Gatorade. But like Gongshow11 was saying, use a dilluted Gatorade to replenish your liquids during the game rather than drinking it straight. I actually drink a little Gatorade beforehand to put some fuel in the tank; those simple carbs and sugars burn quickly so you can use them early on in the game. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 when I played football I used 1/2 water to 1/2 gatorade, it's hot and you sweat a LOT in florida, even in the winter. With hockey I drink a lot of gatorade hours before the game, then water during the hour before and during the game. By the end of the game I still have energy. I drink water after the game unless I start to feel cold or lightheaded, then its gatorade. Powerade is useless. That's just what works for me, but what works for me might not work for you.
