Bauer 7000 vs. Bauer 8000

Recommended Posts

I have looked all over the internet for side by side comparisons and I've been able to find very little. I have a couple of questions that relate to this topic I suppose...

1. Personally what do you think is the better skate?

2. Are the 7000's as unbearably stiff as they are made out to be?

3. I currently wear a 7.5D RBK 9K What size should I be looking at in the supremes? (My RBK's are too wide as I have narrow feet)

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers

As I am sure you are already aware both of the skates in question are discontinued. With that being said, I have a pair of 8000's in 7.5D and I really liked them except that this skate was made with less padding in the ankles than in previous editions (so I have been told) which caused me some discomfort around my boney ankles once the skates formed around my feet. Othe than that, i felt the skates were very good as far as durability and stiffness go. I skates in my for two seasons (before the discomfort became a major issue) and they are still in excellent condition.

The best advice I can give you is to just go try them on and get first hand input from a knowledgable LHS concerning the fit.

By the way, I just bought a pair of Vapor XXXX and so far, wearing them around the house, they are fitting really well. I will be skating on them for the first time this friday.

If I remember correctly, the 7000 had Custom+ holders and the 8000 had the first generation Lightspeed holders. I personally don't like the Lightspeed.

Thank guys.

Both are pro stock and the 7000's have had lightspeeds put on so that is not a point of difference between the two. Is a Bauer D appreciably narrower than a RBK D?

Yes...considerably narrower in the heel. The toebox is also snug on the 7000 compared to RBK. The 7000 is built like a tank...but a bit on the heavier side. I have worn 7000s for years...but now with the stiffness of the XXXX, I have found the skate that is perfect for me. Very stiff...and much lighter than the 7000.

I had the liner redone in my skates and had gel pads placed in the ankle area, made a world of difference. It cost around 50$ canadian but it was worth every penny :)

I loved my 7000s. I also liked my Vapor XXs, but wished they were stiffer. I have no experience with the 8000s; the 7000s were more widely worn.
