CCM Pro Tacks

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of changing the E-pro holder of my new Tacks.

I like the forward pitch of my Graf's ... should I simply put Cobra holders on my tacks?

you can do that or get the steel on the e-pro holders profiled. most would agree that ccm steel is a bit better than the graf steel in terms of edge retention.

Thanks DL ... the salesman is great but I'm not sure their tech guy is as experienced as some of the guys here which is why I would trust him to change my holders but would be relunctant to have him profile my skates.

If you just want a little more forward lean perhaps you could insert a heel lift between the back of the holder and the bottom of the boot.

This is far from my area of expertise so better to check with someone who actually knows to see if this is worth pursuing.

Sounds like a good option ... thanks jjtt99.

They are pro stock D in front and A's at the heal and they are selling them for $229 cnd. Being the cheap bstrd that i am i got a pair.

I wear Graf's 704's so I thought the fit would be fine but after wearing them around the house A's at the heal are tighter than I thought.

They already heat molded them once at the shop ... how many times would it be safe to put them in the oven?

I was sitting during the cooling process but would it not be a better idea to stand?

But they always tell you to sit and then not skate on them for the next 24 hours; At least thats what they always told me.

I know ... I was just curious cause it seems that the shape of the foot and pressure points change from sitting to standing.

Do not stand while you're getting your skates heat-molded. Standing is a good way to deform your outsole. Ask your shop if they can stretch the boot a bit where it's tight. If it's only one small spot ask if they can hammer it out.

I would think that getting your blades profiled would be a good first step, its cheaper and is easier/cheaper to fix than a mismounted holder. You could send your steel to Bob at noicingsports to make sure its done well. As far as changing holders, I know the shop in my city (TotalHockey) charges $20 to take the original holders off and another $40 to put the new holders on...thats if you have the holders already, pricing is different if you buy them there. But, I don't even trust that place to sharpen my skates. I think getting Bob to profile/radius/sharpen your skates is like $20-30...

Thanks ... never thought about the outsole.

Actually they would not charge me as it would be considered an blade exchange. Thanks though.
