Toe-Ties and Roller Hockey Goal Skates

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm taking the leap into goal for roller hockey and have a question. I have the NBH XG Lite Goal Skates (5 47" wheels) and the Mission Helium Elite goal pads. I tried tying the toe-ties as mentioned here:

http://www.vaughnhockey.com/goaltending_re...y_userguide.htm

The problem is it seems like the pads sink down and both the flap (toe bridge?) that has the toe-tie strings and the string themselves go flush against the front wheel, preventing it from rolling and thus causing me to stop short when I try to skate.

Does anybody have any ideas or insight on how I should do the toe-ties on roller hockey goal skates so this doesn't happen? I PM'd Justin already but am willing to take any/all suggestions.

Pictures would be nice...

Thanks in advance.

i have exactly the same skates and i only use the strap and put it through the middle of the skate dont use toe ties. be intested to hear some ideas on this though

Do you take out the middle wheel off or do you skate on a four wheel chassis?

Try tying knots about an inch, so the toe bridge thing doesn't get stuck under the wheels. It is hard to explain what I mean, so I will try to find a picture for you.

Here you can see the toe tie, and if you look close you can see that the person tied about an inch away from the toe bridge. Try doing this and see if it works.

Do you think you could get some pics of your setup, and the boot area of your pads, so I can help you out more.

I see what you're getting at but doesn't the knot get caught in the wheel if you make it too large?

Justin pointed me to another resource and what I ended up doing was taking off the toe bridge/flap and just running the strings directly through the pad. Seemed to work okay although I'll find out for sure tonight. Thanks for all the help.
