pre game nerves...

Recommended Posts

My roller hockey team has always won our league out right with plenty of games to spare this season however with a few injuries and suspensions weve fallen behind by two points with one game left to play and we need to win it by two goals to take the league on goal difference, to top it off the game is against our biggest rivals. ive never been more nervous about a game in my life has any one got any tips on how to beat it and keep focused?

go into it like any other game. work hard, do the things you should and you should come out on top. and be confident! half of it, if not more, is in you head.

Unless your getting paid to play, just remember you are there to have fun first and foremost. I used to get all worked up about winning that it stoped being fun. Then I woke up and realized I was paying a ton of money to do something that I was not enjoying. I still loved to skate but it was just getting too competitive. After that I just went out to have fun; win or lose. As previously said, just go out and play your game, have fun, and don't worry about the championship; that will take care of itself.

Use the nerves to your advantage. My nerves always help to keep me on my toes and basically ready for anything. So don't worry about getting rid of them.

yea i always try and play for the fun of it... but there is pressure trying to beat the other team who we really hate lol and keep the title away from them.

Nerves before a big game are expected. I've learned to actually enjoy them - my body telling me it is a big game. Mine go away as soon as I step on the ice.

Be confident in yourself and your teammates. If you guys are good enough to make it this far, this game shouldn't be any big issue. If you're nervous, you'll probably hesitate out on the ice and consequently not play to the fullest extent of your ability. Try dressing up a little before your game, or maybe a haircut or shave or something. Anything to convince yourself that you're the shit and nothing can stop your team.

Deep breaths before, and during, the game.

In the nose, out the mouth.

You'll feel pretty retarded doing this, but lay down in the locker room, put your hand on your stomach, and breathe deep, feel your stomach expand, and then breathe out. Helps so much.

Here in Australia, NSW I get to play proper games only once a year. Roughly six games on one weekend. When I play those games I am so nervous, I don't know anyone (I play in other teams as I don't have my own) I was nervous as anything and right now I would nearly anything to feel that way again. It was awesome. So for me nerves are a good thing.
