Mission Flyweight Shaft Blade Pairing

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for another stick to add to replace my old Mission Flyweight, but after doing a little searching, I've realized that I need to start using it again.

I current use a TPS Response Armor with a Messier curve.

I'm not sure which blade is on my Flyweight, but it's a Mission that I bought with the shaft.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which newer model tapered blades might work best with this shaft?

Will Perani's/other LHS's likely put the blade in for me if I buy from them? I did a pretty crappy job with the current one.

i'd imagine since the flyweight is so light, getting a composite would be the logical step. somebody more familiar with the weight and balance of the flyweight might be able to field this.

you should be able to get a heatgun from a local hardware store for around $20, though any LHS should be able do it.

I use a Vector V5.0 blade in my Mission team comp. The whole setup is super light and I really like how the blade has held up.

I'm guessing the blade you had was the old Mission Ether Comp blade. They had nice feel but were pretty soft.

I still use 10-7 Biogirth Flyweights and haven't had any compatability problems with any of the retail tapered tenon blades. I also use both the XN10 and XXX Lite tapered shafts, and the Flyweight (despite it's lightness) seems to be weighted a bit more toward the handle. Meaning the same blade in the Flyweight shaft results in a combo with a slightly higher balance point (same shaft lengths, no end plugs). Wood blade combo's feel less blade heavy with my Flyweights at least.
