new cowlings vs. new skates

Recommended Posts

so my problem is that i need new steels for my skates and seeing as cowlings must be changed with them i would need all new cowlings too. The other option would be to just buy new skates which would cost more. I know that cowling changes can sometimes disrupt the mold of the boot so i was wondering if you guys knew any ups and downs to changing the cowlings because i have never had it done.

I have been wearing the same boot since 1999 and change my cowlings every two years. The holes that are already in your boot for the rivets can be used again for the new cowling. Shouldn't have any issues

If your boots are in good shape then there should be no problem. This is one of the reasons that I wear graf, the boot is much easier to swap into a new cowling not to mention that it's just flat out a better boot.

and, as skooled said, the colour of your cowlings is ultimately important to how you play.

you may want to have a look at the newer rbk/ccm cowlings, as they feature replaceable steel. The steel is also stainless, and I want to say that some others are still using lower-grade carbon steel.

I second the rbk cowlings. All other cowlings have fixed carbon steel. RBKs have the replaceable stainless, plus the cowling is designed for the modern bfly goalie, offset steel, lightened, etc. The stainless will save you $$$ over the years on sharpenings, enough to pay for the cowlings. Worth every penny.

Yeah Like I Have The RBK 9K Pumps And I Have Changed My Steel Runners Once On My Cowlings

Wow, you shouldn't have needed to replace them already. How often do you have them sharpened? I got mine when they first came out and sharpen about once a week and still have plenty of steel left on them.
