I find the stutter cross-over is hard to contain. I believe I saw it a while ago, Paul Coffee comes to mind. He would cross-over like the was going to the middle, but force his momentum to the outside so it gets the D crossing with you, but puts you in a differen't position and going away from the D.

It's gonna have to be a good head fake or shoulder fake, b/c any good defenseman is gonna have his eyes locked straight on the crest of your jersey. I don't care how good anyone is, they ain't goin' nowheres without their chest.

I am good with the between the legs move, put the puck between the guy's legs and accelerate to reach the puck, I am good at deeking the D but the goally is another thing.

Speed is your biggest asset. Without it, you won't beat your guy no matter how sick your hands are. That being said:

Come wide on your guy, cross over to the inside, then quickly cut back. As the d man adjusts, pull it back to the inside under his stick, and if you are moving fast enough, he is goin right, your going left, and he has to waste a second in transition to turn and skate forward to catch you. Gives you a chance for a clean shot, or even burn him all together.

Take a year and watch guys like Kovalchuk. Old clips of Bure and Leetch. It will help a lot.

opposite for me, i can shake goalies all day (sorta) . but cant get past D for the life of me. that through the skate stuff never works in our league. (about 2 years ago thats ALL anyone did)

personally, I just blow past the D when I get the chance. Blow past, then cut into the slot or something and flick in upstairs or 5hole.

i got a trick that always works in house league, but i've yet to try it in anything else.

Come down straight at the d-man, put it through his legs then stop. Then tap it back through his legs again, and boom you got a clear shot

Edit: Keep in mind that these are non-contact leagues, if it wasnt, i'd be introduced to the floor much more.

Like headonaswivelsaid said speed is the most important thing to have when comming down on a dman, I usually keep it simple since I always have the speed. A simple fake to one side(backhand)and then cut back to the opposite side(back to forehand or Vise Versa) works all the time but the key is timing.

I can't believe no one said toe drag. that is one of the best waysi think. Also cut from one side of the ice to the center but put the puck under the defenseman's stick that works too. I see alot of guys stop their feet movie once they start to dangle, and that never helps

hmm, I agree. Against good, experienced D-men, good luck with the through the skates stuff.

I believe you quoted the wrong guy too, not that it matters...lol

I've seen and used a stutter step type move that has worked to freeze the D man pretty much everytime. Sometimes they get a lucky pokecheck in, but it usually works. I'm a lefty, and cutting across center from left to right, with a defender marking me, I will use my right skate to start a stop, like I'm gonna hold up teh play and try to quarterback something, and along witha shoulder fake they usually buy it. Than I cut back and sprint in the same direction I was if the D man stopped, or cut back to the left if he kept going. Works everytime if you can keep the puck in close and look up like you're surveying the rink...
