Fisherman here?

Recommended Posts

spearfishing sounds like fun. i went on the Sea Queen VI yesterday for some striped bass action, it was a trip from 7pm-12am, and let me tell you nobody on the boat caught a keeper striped bass (>28in), but just about everything was caught. i think 5 sand sharks, 3-4 bluefish, some fluke, and sea robin (nasty looking fish), and some black fish. i caught a bluefish, and was a couple of ounces short of winning the pool (about 100 USD i think). all in all was it worth 5 hours, nope.

Does anyone here spearfish? Apnea or tanks, I perefer apnea (breatholding/freediving).

A few areas of Kaliforniastan have started allowing freshwater spearing for certain species but for the most part it is saltwater only. Freediving is way easier than fly fishing ;)

i had a dream were i was spear fishin or what ever it is ."watchd it on tv"

i want to try that so bad.

does anyone know anything about catching gar? there evdry were here. there hard as a rock "unsnagable"

What do you count as a fisherman, becasue i don't fish with a rod but i commercial fish using nets and traps for crab, lobster and flat fish.

thats technically fishing, but not in my book. that takes away the anticipation, the skill, and just about everything else other than the fish

do you do that year round?

i call that fishing! In my book i am a sport fisherman. From what i have seen it takes a hell of a lot of skill, knowledge and hard work to fish for your livelihood. I just hope fisherman and environmentalists can find the middle ground to make sure there are sustainable jobs and sustainable fish/shellfish populations.

I've always been into fishing ever since I was about 10 years old, and my main target is the northern pike, but I do also fish for other species like perch, walleye and trout once in a while. My main equipment for pike fishing is a 7'6" casting rod from Bass Pro, with an Ambassadeur reel and Power Pro braid line, and I most often use various crankbaits such as Bomber, Swim Whizz, Rapala and others. Biggest catch so far is a 18 lbs 12 oz (8.5 kg) and 41" (104 cm) northern pike from last June, but I like to go fishing even if I don't even catch anything because it's just so nice and relaxing out there.

Here are a couple pictures of my pike (same fish in both pictures), but ignore the obnoxious life jacket lol! Nice to see fellow pike fishermen here on this board. :)

Nice!

That one has some great dark color! Mine is from a clear water lake, so it's pretty light, they get darker like that in a little lake of the main lake were there is darker water from the cedar swamp that feeds it.
