Hazard14 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 spearfishing sounds like fun. i went on the Sea Queen VI yesterday for some striped bass action, it was a trip from 7pm-12am, and let me tell you nobody on the boat caught a keeper striped bass (>28in), but just about everything was caught. i think 5 sand sharks, 3-4 bluefish, some fluke, and sea robin (nasty looking fish), and some black fish. i caught a bluefish, and was a couple of ounces short of winning the pool (about 100 USD i think). all in all was it worth 5 hours, nope. In my book i am a sport fisherman. From what i have seen it takes a hell of a lot of skill, knowledge and hard work to fish for your livelihood. I just hope fisherman and environmentalists can find the middle ground to make sure there are sustainable jobs and sustainable fish/shellfish populations. Petey21 1 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 I've always been into fishing ever since I was about 10 years old, and my main target is the northern pike, but I do also fish for other species like perch, walleye and trout once in a while. My main equipment for pike fishing is a 7'6" casting rod from Bass Pro, with an Ambassadeur reel and Power Pro braid line, and I most often use various crankbaits such as Bomber, Swim Whizz, Rapala and others. Biggest catch so far is a 18 lbs 12 oz (8.5 kg) and 41" (104 cm) northern pike from last June, but I like to go fishing even if I don't even catch anything because it's just so nice and relaxing out there. Mine is from a clear water lake, so it's pretty light, they get darker like that in a little lake of the main lake were there is darker water from the cedar swamp that feeds it.
