Konig von Kuhlem 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 My LHS has a custom footbed machine and I've been thinking of getting a pair of custom molded footbeds the next time I buy skates. However, some skates have thermoformable bottom sections of the boot. So I was wondering, is getting custom molded footbeds defeating the purpose of this skate feature or does it further enhance the skate performance?
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 Last I checked, the bottom of the skate doesn't form to your foot, only the sides.I would also say that if the sake is baked with the footbed in, you'd need to stand for the footbed to correctly mold to your foot and most shops I've seen recommend not standing in freshly baked skates for fear of disforming the holders.Having your skate baked without the new insole in and then changing insoles changes the way your foot is positioned, throwing off the bake form. You might have to bake the combo, then remove and rebake the insoles so you can stand in the skates. You can see why when wearing sandals. Sit down and they look 2-3 sizes too big, stand up and they're like a glove.
sogaduch 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 if its the graf insoles then those have to be removed when being re-heated because the heat from the oven can deform the insole
