ThePurpleCobra 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 i broke my ankle on june 3 but there is just alittle more swelling on the opposite side of where i broke it, what are some things that can help reduce swelling besides elevating it?
pisani34 10 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 when i had a 2nd degree sprain, i had to do this routine.get a bucket of ice cold water, VERY cold, and a pretty warm/hot bucket. Submerse the ankle in the warm bucket for 4 minutes, and then into the ice water for 1 minute, and do this for 20 minutes. And don't rush back doing anything on the hurt ankle, even if you think you can deal with the pain etc. don't, because your just going to extend your recovery time even longer. Just take it easy and all will heal soon

ThePurpleCobra 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 could you see the reducing of swelling in the 20 minutes?
pisani34 10 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 well this was when my injury was fresh, my ankle was the size of a tennis ball and my foot was all black/purple. I don't know if you can see immediate improvement, but it will help the blood flow along and help with decreasing swelling. Nothing cures like time...remmeber that
Sven 1 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Its important to cool it down immediately and as long as possbile. But if you take something like a freezerpack, wrap it in a towel.

golfpuck 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 if it happened june 3, it should be healed or close to healed..get the doc to take an xray to confirm the healing.the "swelling" you see probably not "swelling" but scar tissue, which usually forms around breaks/injuries...the only way to break up scar tissue is to vigorously massage it.i broke my ankle, and regular skating actually helped, becuase the pressure of the boot, massaged the area, and broke up the scare tissue.now it is about the same size as my other ankle, and i have almost as much movement.i am not a doctor.. just experience i had with my ankle
ThePurpleCobra 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 yeah, im actually almost positive its just scar tissue. because it doesnt hurt at all.. I go back monday for my last X-ray and then he can tell me when i can play. Im glad to hear that ur skate broke up the scar tissue
