Custom NBH orders: width concerns

Recommended Posts

I recall reading a thread, from a while back, which stated that NBH had warned distributors that custom orders of the 8090 would have a peculiar issue with width. A stock 8090 in D width is (was) actually, according to NBH, an EE. Any custom 8090 orders that specified a D-width, on the other hand, would actually get a D width, and be far narrower than normal.

My question: is this always true of the wider-fitting NBH skates?

For example, the new Flexlite 18s are due out any time (EWH and GreatSkate have them listed). I might seriously consider custom ordering a pair of them with a slightly narrower heel, reinforced eyelets, and a couple other things to make it closer to the old Flexlite 12. Problem is, nobody I've talked to can tell me whether a retail Flexlite D-width (which fits me almost perfectly) is the same as a custom Flexlite D -- and I'm sure as hell not going to order custom skates blindly.

Secondarily, will Nike let me pick any holder in their lineup? (I'd much prefer to get the Custom+ than any version of the LS.)

P.S. I promise my recent thread bombardment is nearing its conclusion.

A, Best way to is measure horizontally across the widest part of the forefoot and find out which width that measurement falls within for the F18.

B. You can choose any holder, including the C+.

Thanks for the info on the holders.

I think may have been unclear about my questions with the width-sizing problem.

If a retail 8090 or Flexlite D is disproportionately larger in the toe and forefoot, are those (dis)proportions preserved when you go custom? (ie. if the width of the forefoot shrinks for a Custom D, does the heel size shrink proportionally?)

Basically, I want to know if a custom 8090 or Flexlite is the same basic proportional shape as the retail, or whether one has to specify every proportion in a custom order so that the same basic shape & fit as the retail skates can be achieved.

No I understand your question. What I'm saying is that once you have the measurement of your forefoot, you should verify with NBH exactly which custom width letter range you fall within for each model, not by letter, but in MM's. Same goes for the heel width. They should be able to translate that physical measurement to an appropriate letter width they use for the custom F18, whether it is true to retail or not.

That said, if you say you want "stock Flexlite fit with a narrower heel" (either A or AA depending on whether or not stock is B or A respectively as I'm unsure at the moment) they should be able to accommodate.
