JB Weld for blade repair...

Recommended Posts

The toe of my Warrior Robatille blade was split along the edge. After unsuccessfully trying to repair a similar issue on another stick with marine epoxy, I tried JB Weld.

After two games, so far so good! There are no signs that the epoxy is chipping or cracking and the blade has not split any further....

I'll update this thread as I get more use out of it, but the intial signs are that this is an inexpensive repair for certain cracks in blades.

I've used that stuff many times for fishing rod making. It is good stuff, not the most attractive looking goo, but it works. On a stick the gray might blend in perfectly.

20 cents of gray epoxy saving a $47 blade looks beautiful to me!

I've used JB Weld in the past and was initially happy with the results, but eventually the repair cracked off, especially for repairs along the bottom of the blade. It seemed like moisture and cold temperatures really weakened the JB Weld.

Now I use and recommend QuikSteel epoxy putty. It's easier to use and never weakens. It's also black and looks better. You can find it in the automotive section of Wal-Mart.

I've used Gorilla Glue with good success, but it took time cause it'd foam up. Every few minutes I smear it all back into the crack until it stopped foaming. Worked well, and looked fine after I colored it with a Sharpie. I would still be using it cept it was an OPS and I broke the shaft.
