vector vs 7k pump

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,

Well as some may know I was in a vector pro size 8.5 D. I was interested and

really wanted to get the vapor xxv, well I went to my lhs and well now i have issues with sizing. I thought i would be able to fit int he bauer xxv, Well After trying them on . My feet are not ment to fit in bauer haha, painful! So I tried on the 7k pump, Assuming that it will fit like the vecotr, well no dice. The shop put me in a 9 D and they just felt really bad. Now Is this normal for the rbk to not fit like the vector? I know tacks fit way wider and deeper but i didnt think the pump would be so off in sizing. So i left there and thanked them for the time. I dont know what else to look at now. They carry graf so I think tomorrow I will go in and look at those. They said for me to try an easton 800C so tomorrow I will do that. But damn, I was pist because I wanted the bauer skates!

It sounds like you might want to give the Bauer Supreme series a try. (like a Supreme 70 or an old 8090)

there's a chance the supremes will be too deep (especially the 8090s), as the rbks didn't work. RBKS are wider and deeper than vectors.

Grafs will have a different feel as they are lower-cut, less stiff and call for more ankle strength.

Eastons are generally wide as well, but not as deep (save the newer stealth skates). iirc, They'd fit closer to tacks than vectors.

why not just get another pair of vectors?

I skated in a pair of CCM Vector Pro's for the last 2.5 years, in a size 7D ( I wear a 9/9.5 shoe) and I recently picked up a pair of RBK 8k's in a size 7C (have a really narrow foot, but my vectors were a deeply discounted deal, so I wasnt picky). The 8K's fit almost exactly the same, except they feel a bit closer fitting on the sides because of the width. Try the 8K's. You may just have a funny foot though, because I tried on the 9k pumps, in a 7D and they fit pretty good.

I have been skating in a pair of Vector 8.0 size 9D for about a year now. They always felt a touch narrow to me, but not excessively painful. They had been chewing up the upper portion of both of my ankles above the ankle bone on the outside of my legs. Was up in Detroit this weekend and went and tried on about a dozen different skates over the course of a few hours.....ended up in the RBK 7K in a 9E. To me....they fit A LOT like the old Tacks line. If you preferred the fit of the Tacks, then I would say RBK in a heart beat. Also....I never truly felt like the Vector line locked my heel in place properly. Much better on the RBK.

The heel pocket does seem to have more padding.....both in the heat moldable type and the padding from the pump. The heel pocket also feels deeper than the Vectors, but I have a pretty normal heel/achilles area and they fit me great. I think that they would hold a narrow heel ok, but without having a narrow heel and trying it on.....I can't really say.

Spree- Your vectors were chewing your ankles up too? When did it begin? When I first got my vectors I had no problem, but as I broke them in, and then eventually broke them down, it began.......I hope this isnt the case with my 8k's

Mine do it pretty consistently anytime I am in the skates over 2 hours. It does it about 1-1/2" above my ankle bones. The top seams on both of my skates where the liner meets the outer shell are splitting, and some of the plastic structural material is coming through the top of that seam also. All of this at only 9 months. VERY dissapointed.
