AG or XP (jr.)

Recommended Posts

Sorry all, I'm too lazy to search this past 3 threads on the board, so I'll get to it. Please also note I tried to use the Mission 'contact' email web page but it just consistantly crashes. So here essentially is the question I tried to get to Mission already. My question is with regards to determining the best skate (replacement model) for my 10 y/o son. My son has been skating in a pair of Mission S500 Jr. skates since Spring 06'. We are finaly in need of replacing them. So I was hoping for a recommendation with regards to which of the AG or XP (120's) series would be the closest replacement. Why Mission? My theory is to stick with what you know, and are used to. Unfortunately most of my local hockey shops have limited knowledge on this criteria. Not to mention most LHS don't stock the higher end skates for kids to try (maybe one or two)the different fits, or would just rather sell you something that they have "in stock" (Sorry guys) which means trying to make an educated decision and "special ordering" sight on seen. With regards to the agile vs power issue, In my opinion I would consider my son to be more of an agile player, quick feet on take off, really good on his edges in cornering and transition, however he is not really an offensive stick handler and deker, and his ability to break at the ankle needs improvement. He often plays defense as well as center. He's more of a play maker and outlet passer. But most of all his talent is along the boards, in the corners and behind the net winning puck battles and quick into the openings to make a pass. He is not really a power skater, he relies on quick feet rather than powerful strides. So my dilemma rests in picking the right skate. Will the XP skate for example help him improve towards a longer more powerful stride and more support for grinding and pinning guys on the boards, or would AG be suited for the way he already plays, quick to the boards and out. Your help and feedback is greatly appreciated. Also for you non Mission fans. My son is going to the CCM Guts & Glory Camp here in Van., and apparently there will be new CCM product for the kids look at and try on. Is there any thing in the CCM / RBK arsenal worth looking at? Cheers!
