Helmet & Visor advice for CCM and RBK helmets!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm really new to hockey equipment and need help. My brother just bought a CCM 1092 helmet in white and I just bought a RBK 8k Helmet in white as well. We both need visors for them.

This is what Helmet/Visor combo we have tenatively decided on getting:

CCM 1092 --> Oakley pro straight small visor

RBK 8k ----> Itech HS22 straight cut half shield

Will these combos look good? Also, should we get grey/tinted or clear visors? or yellow or blue with respect to Oakley? How are optics with different colored visors? We need something that goes well with white helmets and prefer if the visor did not stick out too much. We want it to look really good! We're plan to buy soon so any comments would be very appreciated! Thank you.

Only get tinted if you play some where with really bright lights ... otherwise you may just end up getting those lovely new helmets taken off your head and hit with them for trying to be like Mike ... sorry worng sport .. like Alex O.

Yeah you can't go wrong with either of those combo's. Just be careful with the Oakley visor and what cleaning products you use on it. Only use their brand of cleaner or you may have problems with it

Do tinted visors look cooler than clear visors?

I have a tinted visor right now and i would suggest getting a clear one because the line were it changes from tint to ice sometimes can get annoying. the only reason that i bought a tinted visor was because of the lighting in my arena. But if you want it just to look good than go for it.

I had an idea today to apply a clear window film to the outside of my visor to protect it from scratches, etc. The idea being when it gets marked up it could be easily removed an replaced with a new piece, hopefully extending the life of the visor. I haven't gone looking for the clear yet but I did have a roll of window tint sitting here so I stuck some on an old visor just to see how it goes on, etc.

This stuff is about $8/roll & comes in different colors + silver & gold.

I'm thinking about getting the blue oakley just because it is supposed to improve clarity and I don't have perfect vision. Do you guys think it is worth it, since it has that annoying difference from visor to below it? Not counting what it looks like because I don't care.

personally i dont think its worth it because just with a tinted visor like i have stated before it can get a little distracting with the colour change. And if you have bad enough vision( ex: cant see the puck at all) you should probably get some contacts or something instead of thinking a blue visor will help.

I have contacts I just don't like wearing them when I play sports because if you rub your eyes from sweat or water getting in your eyes they can come out or get stuck in the top of your eyelid etc. I was just wondering if the blue really makes that much of a difference in the clarity. I'm near-sighted so I just can't see thing like the scoreboard from far away.
