Hybrid style sticks

Recommended Posts

I tried a search and came up empty, so feel free to respond with a link if a topic was already started on this. :P

I have been thinking about trying to get back to wood sticks, but the biggest issue I have is blade durability. As such, I have looked at the hybrid style sticks as options (wood shaft, composite blade) - Sherwood ETS, or Montreal 9944's, for example. I had a Bauer Fusion Fibre a year ago for outdoor rinks, and it lasted well, but it weighed a frigging tonne! Among this style stick, which would those of you with experience rate as the best buy, weight and performance being most important, with durability as a close second.

Thanks.

I've used the CCM Vectors and the Easton hybrids.

The CCM V50 are tanks, but heavy. Probably more fibreglass than a pricepoint OPS. More of a street hockey stick than and ice stick.

The Easton's are good but the fuse point of the blades go bad fast if you're a big shooter. I liked the Easton better than the CCM though.

I had one of the easton hybrids as a backup for a long time. I have since given it away, but I thought it was a solid stick. More durable than a traditional wood blade and stiffer, though they do tend to go soft (still better than a woodie though). Good balance and feel too IMO.

The only hybrid stick I've used was an '03 Easton Z-Carbon. It was by far my favorite wood stick but the shaft does go soft and I've stopped using it once it cracked at the area where the blade meets the shaft.

I used 2 different hybrids last season. A RBK pro-hybrid and a CCM vector 7.0. Both are great sticks. Good balance, decent weight and great feel..

The vector 7.0/RBK pro-hybrid (they are the same) is actually a KOHO 4460 with new paintjob. Both the koho, and now the vector is very popular among SEL players who prefer wood sticks..

the only downside i can see, is that they are a little bit pricy compared to other woodies..

Bumping this one up because I did not want to start a new thread.

Has anyone used a CCM Vector V.4.0 Hybrid stick? Any opinions?

Thanks!
