Lie Discussion

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know what the lie indicates. I have seen topics where the "actual" lie of certain manufacturers is discussed. So, some will say well "Warrior is actually 1 degree off, as a warrior 5 is actually an Easton 6" while others think that Easton is the one off, and an Easton 6 is REALLY a Warrior 5. Yes, 6 one way, 1/2 dozen the other. Anyways...

Does anyone know what a generic lie should be? I believe the lie is the angle between the shaft and the ground when the blade is placed on said ground in a specific position. I guess i have several questions:

1) what position is correct for the balde to be in? The spot which places the largest % of blade on the surface? Mid-point of blade? I think this spot is intuitive when you are holding a stick, but if you had to describe it, hwo would you?

2) Obviously a lie of 4 has no mathematical significance except 4 represents a certain manufacturers way of labeling a lie that is "X" degrees. Does anyone know of any guidelines that say a 5 lie should be between 43 and 47 degrees for example, and a 6 is GENERALLY 50-54 degrees?

You see this in golf clubs, except you can find the actual lie angles for clubs, not just "STANDARD" or "+1 UPRIGHT".

Me personally, I like the warrior 5 lie on the KOvalev pattern.

Just as with flex, most people consider the Easton scale to be the standard. This is a tough question to answer because of blade rocker.

I THINK that warrior measures the angle between the shaft and heel instead of the mid part of the blade, but I could be wrong.
