Checking Techniques

Recommended Posts

I've recently started playing ice hockey again and due to my frame (6ft1 200lbs) I'm expected to play with a physical edge to my game.

Problem is I can't hit to save my life. Due to missing me missing over 8 years of junior hockey (I'm 21 now) Ive never been taught how to throw a proper hit so any tips / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also, when it comes to taking a hit, I've always been told to get close to the boards and not to back out of a hit. Again any tips / suggestions would be great.

What kind of league are you playing in? Most adult recreational leagues are non-checking.

If you are in one of the few checking leagues, why? It sounds like you're pretty late to the game.

I'm going to lock this up since it's not really an equipment thread. There are some links from DamnLocust as well on taking hits. If you don't find any on throwing checks. PM me and I'll re-open this in the Hockey Dicussion forum.
