Granted, but I'm not sure Thomas is as comfortable in the backup role as Gerber, and frankly, Gerber's a lot more consistent. He may not have been satisfied by his performance last season, but his stats were (I'm not kidding here) exactly identical to those he had in Carolina. Thomas will occasionally steal games, but he'll blow just as many: great goalie, bit of a headcase.

I think you're officially the first person to ever refer to Tim Thomas as a headcase. As I said, Thomas is a great backup who was posing as a starter. Holes appeared due to fatigue. The guy isn't made to see 60+ games. I've said since he came on the scene in Boston that he is a much better backup than starter (Manny Legace anyone).

Obviously, the key is how well Fernandez bounces back this year but he has performed well in the past.

Gerber has lost his job in 2 cities in back to back years. That is hardly something that can build a guy's confidence. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sens work to find a way to dump him during the season should Emery maintain as the #1 in Ottawa.
