Making skates wider

I recently broke 4 metatarsals in my foot and will probably have a wider foot after this. I skate in ccm pro tacks in a D width. How much wider can a skate be stretched. The skate were already on the narrowe side already

Most skates can also be ordered in E or EE as a stock option.

I've never had to stretch a boot because I'm always really careful when purchasing skates to make sure they fit perfectly. I have had teammates that needed to stretch their boots wider. From what I have heard it is possible to stretch a D width to an E with no problems.

The skates fit but my left foot will be wider so I will need it stretched I dont really want new skates

How does skate streching work? Is it a process that can be done by your LHS that actually yields the results of wider skates?
