Speed Skating

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it is anything like skating with hockey skates? What are the similarities, differences, etc.

I've got a rink that sells a $30 exercise pass. You can go from 10-2 every day and skate. I guess I could skate around and exercise with my ice skates, I just thought it'd be fun with speed skates too.

Thanks.

I just realized I probably posted this in the wrong subforum thing. If anyone knows how I can move it to another forum, lemme know.

Sorry guys, I'm still a bit of a beginner here.

Speed skates are hinged at the toe and not attached at the heel. They're like that so the whole blade (which is twice as long and flat) is in contact for the entire stride, ending with a strong, springing push with the toes.

Keep your hockey skates, do laps forward and backward. If there are any speeders, keep toward the middle and work on close-quarters maneuvers. DON'T bring a stick and puck, they'll probably assume you're going to be shooting and prone to hit someone or trip them up (and they go FAST with no protection).
