Grafs: too much skate for a novice skater?

Recommended Posts

After hitting up nearly every shop that carries skates in a 60 mile radius, I finally stumbled across some Flexlites, and it looks like they may have the fit I'm looking for. Not exactly the prettiest skate out there, but at this point they could be neon pink and I wouldn't care, as long as they fit.

I do have a question, though: can someone enlighten me as to the differences between the Flexlite 16 and 18? No one I've spoken to at local shops so far has been helpful with anything outside of "the 18's cost more."

Thanks again to all the MSH'ers who have helped me out in this arduous process!

What size do you need? I've got a pair of brand new Flexlite 12's 9d in the sell forum. A better skate than both the 16 and 18...

why do you think the grafs would be too much for a novice?

if you have the money, know that you're gonna get better, and keep playing why not give yourself the "best"

Because some of us don't have absurd amounts of mula.

The only Grafs that I've encountered at retail locally are top-of-the-line models that are extremely stiff, certainly more so than I'd like considering that I won't be skating all that often, no more than twice a week or so, for several months. With limited ice experience, the forward pitch on Grafs is a bit off-putting to me. Lastly, I'm starting to run out of fingers in counting the number of retailers that have mentioned their headaches in dealing with Graf Canada right now. No stores I've visited have had any Grafs in my likely size in stock; a couple of shops have been able to order them in risk-free, but the "3 or 4 days" I was told it would take for them to arrive has turned into "3 or 4 weeks" with nary a skate. If this is "the best," I'll pass ;)

oh i got it, you dont exactly need them unless they are the only skate that fits you right

i think you'd be better off with a below top of the line skate, built for the intermediate player

the key point being , if you have the money

No go on the size, cbart, but thanks for the offer. I've been trying to track down a pair of 12's, but no such luck just yet, even online.

Being a Top-of-the-line skate, would last year's Flexlite 12's be right for my skating level (or lack thereof) at this point?
