Borje Salming's face stepped on (1986): During a game at Detroit, the Maple Leafs defenceman lay on the ice during a goalmouth scramble. Wings' forward Gerard Gallant was pushed backwards and accidentally stepped on Salming, cutting him on the right side of his face. It took about 250 stitches to close the wound. "He looked like a softball after the game," said teammate Steve Thomas.

There's more in the article plus a picture of Salming's stitched up face, but the picture is definitely Halloween costume worthy. Soft Euros, eh?

Was reading that today in the paper. Only in Detroit... :rolleyes:

The ace bailey story is pretty moving too.. about how all of the bruin's profit of that year went to his family..and how he didnt blame eddie shore for the incident; just said it's all part of the game.
