Differing Euro sizes?

Recommended Posts

I've always used the Euro sizing scale to try to accurately figure out how one brand's skates are sized in another brand. But I'm thrown for a loop because I just picked up a pair of Vapor XIX's.

They're Euro size 40.5, and fit perfect so that I can press lightly against the toe cap.

I also have a pair of Vectors in Euro size 40 but these only barely feather the toe cap. What gives? Why do Vectors in 40 fit longer than Vapors in 40.5? Is using the Euro scale not as standardized as I'd thought?

gonna go out on a limb here and say that maybe the toe cap is slightly more foward in the vectors.. cause that .5 there is so little

I had the same problem recently (although, I wasn't moving to a Bauer).

Both the EUR and CM sizes were bigger, yet the skate was too short. I measured the interior of the skate and the new one did seem short by a bit.

Best I could figure is that the toe box on my Pro Tack is contoured where the big toe side is longer than the little toe side and perhaps allows for a deeper fit. The other one the cap was rounded and didn't allow for as much room.

However, I'm with you - it's weird. One would think standardized sizing shouldn't be THAT hard.

So that's a pretty noticeable difference between toe caps then. I'm also speculating that the thickness also makes a difference, so I'll check it out when I get home.

I thought somone said that Bauer was using an E width skate last on these?

Would a wider skate last result in a longer/shorter skate?

I have a pair of 10.5 EE Pure Fly's and a pair of 11 EE Nike Ignite 2. Both are 45 Euro but the Nike's fit at least a full size bigger than the Missions. The Nike's have ginormous toe caps compared to the Missions., which may account for some of it.

Theoretically it would appear to be longer as it is typically wider throughout the skate, thus, your heel sits further back in the skate and thus would fit "longer" in a wider skate.
