Anyone else with relatively new skates?

Recommended Posts

I just got the mission pure flys because of the clearance price on hockeygiant. I have used mission roller hockey skates for as long as I can remember and they were comfortable. My new ice skates are actually painful to wear. Does anyone else have this problem with new skates. Are the pure flys not a comfortable skate in general? The size seems perfect...my toes barely touch the end of the boot. Whats going on?

I have not gotten them baked yet. Im hoping that along with a few games will berak them in and make them comfortable. The pain is around the arch and on the outer-side of my foot where the toes meet the foot. The skate really feels awkward on my feet.

i used to have mission pure flys and i must admit that they were the most painful skate that ive ever worn. I just bought the new EAston Z-Air Comps and they are really comfortable, no pain or discomfort. I dont like the mission pure fly boot, it never seemed to reall y fit me rite

It's probably just break in pain...I was in Pure Flies before my S500s and I had pain on the inside of my arches for a couple of games. If it doesn't get better with a few skates, take them to an LHS and see if they can be baked to fit, or pushed out a bit if the baking doesn't help.

I had the same kind of pain with my vector pros. I had them baked, the pain lasted about 3 games, now the pain is gone. Unless the skate doesn't fit you properly, its probably just good old break in pains.

I didn't heat bake my S500s and they feel great. Didn't feel any need to because they were soft after one or two skates.

Baking them helps the skate mold to the particular foot in question. They're probably narrower unbaked than heat-fitted.

Also, it may be something to do with the footbed. I know that I cant wear Easton Z-Airs with the stock footbed casue it kills the outside of my arch. But when I put a Bauer of CCM footbed in, they feel great. Maybe its just me though.

Do the PureFly's you bought have the blue liners? When i first got type-m's, they were amazingly comfortable but a couple skates after they were the biggest pain. Its gotta be something with that footbed, because i dont have the problem with my d1/d2c's and/or my s500's.

Yea, my pureflys do have that blue/puple linning. It just doesnt seem to fit my foot correct. I ordered them from hockeygiant -- do ya'll think I should try and return them or go through with the bake and break those bad boys in?

If you've worn them, I don't think you can return them.

My LHS owner (extremely knowledgeable fellow) insists that the Missions be baked because of how the skate is designed. Our friendly neighbourhood Mission expert (that would be Justin) has confirmed this. I suspect that it is because the boot is set up narrow (since once it's wide, it's harder to get narrow) and baking will widen it out as it molds around your foot.

They can be baked up to three times, so baking them once won't impact your resale value.

I would get them baked as recommended above. Another thing to try is leave the first two or three lace sets a little loose (the laces that run between the first two or three sets of eyelets closest to the toes). Too much pressure on or around the ball of your foot can create a lot of pain in other areas.
