MLS Expansion

Recommended Posts

So according to news a couple of cities are in the running to get a MLS team. With Seattle beeing announced a couple of weeks ago, I think it might hurt Vancouver's chance. I see Montreal beeing the front runner in the Canadian cities. Toronto will have the canadian market untill 2010, Saputo Stadium is nearing completion but would need to be upgraded to fit the MLS team. Toronto FC apparently called the MLS to support Montreal's bid and they think it would be a great addition to the northern country. Alot of cities that are in the running are still trying to land the money to get a stadium (Phili, St-Louis). New York already has a team and there is no need to gt another one there right now. What do you guys think?!?

NHL outdoor game in Vancouver when this is done?

Not likely. Vancouver has warmer winters than most of the northeast U.S. Even -5 C is scary for most people here, nevermind a week of snow.

If it happens, they'll have to lay down an insane cooling system,

I heard the NY Mets were interested in operation a MLS team when their new stadium is built, or even building a MLS stadium at Willets Point. anyone hear anything about this as well?

I do remember that the Metros/Red Bulls don't have exclusivity to the NY market and that there is a slot for a second team in NY. Queens makes perfect sense - all of the Central/South Americans who live in Elmhurst/Jackson Heights can just hop on the 7 and right to the stadium. I'm pretty sure they're not making the commute to the Meadowlands.
