ankle pain

Recommended Posts

hey,

recently when i lace my skates up the inside ankle on my left foot has been hurting really bad like right on the bone. i have nike bauer one90s and i got them in March and haven't had any problems until now. the pain is very great but only hurts when i put my skate on.

do you guys have an idea of what this could be? and what can i do to take the pain away?

I had the exact same problem with my one90s... except it was on both of my inside ankles. It didnt start happening until the skate started to really break in. my lhs and i determined that my ankle bones actually sat a little lower than the ankle pockets on the one90s, so where the skate actually came back in towards the foot was pushing directly on my ankle bone, and sort of bruising the bone. my solution was i got rid of them and bought vapor xxxx's.

good solution, most people i know went to this too, Paul Biron and Claude Giroux of the Gatineau Olympiques had similar problems with there one90's too...

I'm having the same problem with my Tour Code 1 roller skates. There just isn't enough padding on the inside ankles and the stiff boot is putting too much pressure on my ankles. It is too the point where one ankle might have a bone spur. At least it looks sharper and more pronounced than the other and I don't remember it being that way before. My fix has been to wear a malleolus gel pad sock to help cushion my ankles with the Tours. I have a set of freebie 7k pump boots that will eventually become my rollers. I just bought a pair of 5k pumps for ice which seem to protect the ankles pretty well and have a softer boot as well. When I tried vapors, the ankle padding felt ok, but the overall fit wasn't so great for me. I noticed my old 5000 comps seem to have plenty more ankle padding than the Tours.

Before you go out and buy new skates i suggest you go to a reputable LHS, i'm sure someone could open up your skates and add more padding to the area.

Adding a lift under the heel of the footbed might help the problem as well. This is a common problem in ski boots and is easily fixable with a lift or new footbed. Raising the heel a little will put the ankle in the right spot in the skate.

The only problem with that is you change your foot stance and you'll need to readjust to the new angle.

i'm actually looking at the xxxx now. how do you like them? are your ankles a lot better in them? i skate everyday of the week so it is very important to solve this problem.

thanks

I really like them, but i think thats more because I'm used to a bauer boot, and this is very similar to the old vapor boots. I would agree with whoever said to go talk to your lhs first.
