i've had to break up a squirt fight as a ref...lol it was great...i was the only ref there so the coches (w.o my permission) came off the bench and started screaming at their own team.

I don't think i handled it too well...there were 2 kids on 1 and so i took the two by the back of their jersey and threw them towards their bench :lol: ...

when it happens in midgets or HS its not good, but understandable, but 8 YEARS OLD?!?!

I am not taking sides, but the Niagara Falls AAA headcoach that was involved was my FORMER coach 2 years ago. He is a nice guy and something must have REALLY pissed him off or he wouldn't have done what he did. And a update on the situation is that the police have decided to drop any charges on anyone, and it is now up to the people involved to settle it out.

I heard it was one of the Niagara assistant coaches that went over to the Duffield bench and got into it with one of their assistant coaches. Apparently neither Peca nor Chamberlain were in the altercation.

To me, it doesn't matter who started it. They were both in the wrong for continuing it.

It just surprises me to hear how young they are.

At 8 years old I used to take the opportunity to make friends, and hang out with them when our teams aren't playing...a brawl at 8 years old is sickening. It has to be something with the media.

I don't get the media's responsibility in this? Because they are talking about it?

I didn't think the cage rage's were that bad. Two kids popping each other in the cage isn't going to do any damage. Who hasn't done that a million times in practice? The coaches should of just kept their kids on the benches and everything would of been fine.

because the media tends to sensationalize things for ratings. When you read the articles or watch the reports they refer to it as a bench clear brawl making you think that it was a some giant fight. When you see the clip it looks more like 2 kids fighting and 10 kids bumping into each other.

The media use to have a responsibility about reporting things accurately, now it's all about the ratings.

No one is concerned about how many kids threw solid punches, or how many were involved (although the benches were cleared)...the thing that is making this story what it is are :

1) the Duffield coach can be clearly seen (on the CBC video) opening the door and sending his players; and

2) the fact the instead of stopping the fracas, an assisant coach from each team, as well as the Duffield head coaches wife got into a fight of their own.

This is why we can't have nice things.

No, seriously. People already have this image of hockey being brutal and violent. We really need this to push that along.

I move for a life ban from coaching for those coaches as well.
