Fixing Mission Head Lock System

Well, it's been broken for some time but hasn't really bothered me until now. On my Intake, the Mission Head Lock System has become way too loose. I think the ticker-tape-like ribbon has somehow become loose - anybody know how to tighten it up without completely dissecting the helmet?

I can pull the ribbon tight, but don't really have any place for the slack to go - was it originally glued to some part behind the EPP or something like that?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

From what I can tell, it's an elastic band that simply gets worn out.

A friend of mine just tied a knot in the worn out elastic and trimmed it. It hasn't happened to mine yet, but that's also what I plan to do, unless someone else has a better idea.
