Looking for new skates.

Recommended Posts

ok. So my beloved Mission RPMs are finally dead, and i'm looking around at getting new skates. Last time i shopped for skates it was quite easy because Mission was easily number one. How does this years missions stack up against the other brands like RBK? and yes i skated for 5 years with those apparently hated VIBEs. ha

RBK/CCM skates aren't as good as their ice counterparts (eg 6k ice > 6k inline), that does not mean they are bad boots if they fit you right (my vectors didn't so I hated them)

NBH's inline are comparable to their low end ice models, and no one seems to like the one up

tour has some new skates coming that you should check out, and code 1's can be found at good clearance prices. the straight 80 setup is very fast

I don't know much about the new missions, but I heard the wickeds had some problems

I skated on the ccm pf 10's for a fair amount of time and I loved them. The held up well and the only negative was the wheels(blue flames)-I do love rink rat wheels but was not crazy about these particular wheels. I do have two pairs of missions now-3' and 5's. 3's definately took longer to break in and through a series of bakings and punches they seem to be ok. 5's took me about 1 month to break in w/o baking or punching-skated on them twice a week. I know their has been a fair amount of criticism about the wicked line(probably somewhat justified) imo but they seem to be working for me now-took some patient and persisitance...

im not a fan of the Vector line of inlines...although the RBK counterpart seems to be a fav around here. i think you get much most bang for the bunck with Missions compared to the price equivalent in CCM.

like the Wicked 5's last year for $300 come with swiss sealed bearings while the $300 V8.0 come with some ABEC-7's. also Mission seem to be using better materials and the skates look to be built with more attention and care.

The Wickeds are good, the new Syndicate line is better. The Wickeds, particularly the 1's and 3's, take a long time to break in and start fairly uncomfortable. The Syndicates, while also nice stiff boots have a bit better form out of the box. The Wicked 5's and 7's are quite a bit easier to just break in through skating.

Tour is going through an innovation cycle with their skates and are making some really solid models. If I hadn't gotten hooked on Mission a few yrs back I'd still be in Tours.

RBK and CCM aren't bad skates, they just don't seem to offer as much bang for the buck. As stated earlier, they don't quite stack up to their ice counterparts, but the pump system is quite comfy out of the box.

NBH models seem to be getting better, but they're still really lack luster compared to the others.

I personally recommend Mission to anyone and everyone, but they may not fit your foot that well. I would stick with Mission or Tour unless you just cannot fit into either, both are making great stuff and putting their all into roller hockey since that's what they do and what they know.

Depends on your feet..... Mission and Tour fit completely different IMO.

no argument there, I wear super thin socks in my Missions and it is a just right tight squeeze into them. On older Tour models I have had I wore regular thickness athletic socks and fit comfortably in them. Mission addressed some of the problems I had with the old lines by widening the forefoot the last few yrs.
