sanding the bottom of blade

I was just wondering the reason people do this. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before couldn't find anything.

This video shows Jarret Stoll sanding his blade at 6:20.

I also saw Guillaume Latendresse doing it before a game.

ive noticed some newer sticks, Kovalchuk, Cajanek, and Havlat, have a small area fo the heel of their forehand modified, ill get pics, but im not sure the benefit of this
