Ferguson Officially Fired

Recommended Posts

I have felt for a long time now that the Leafs need change....big time. I would very much like to see the Leafs become one of the elite teams in the league, but they will need to do some pretty serious house cleaning to accomplish this.

I think the Leafs should strongly consider trading all or most of their top older veterans (Sundin, etc) for some draft picks. The Leafs don't exactly have a history of finding/scouting/developing/holding on to great young talent (at least not since before the Draft was in place), but I think that in the league today the only way to be competitive year after year is to do exactly that. It's true that every team needs veterans, but if I was in charge of the Leafs I would seriously clean house.

If the Leafs get at least a few more young, very talented players to build their team around they would be in the thick of the playoffs every year. Look at the difference that Kane and Toews have made this year in Chicago!

Until the Leafs can figure out how to consistently build around young talent, I fear that they will continually be drowning in mediocrity. And the most frustrating part of it is that it makes financial sense for the ownership to do this because the Leafs as a franchise are already making a LOAD of money (usually one of if not the highest valued NHL teams)....while they MISS THE PLAYOFFS.

Imagine how much money they would make if the Leafs were a legit contender every year? Besides, the Leafs fans have been so supportive for so long...they deserve better.

Fun fact, JFJ finishs 35 games over .500 in 3.5 seasons for the Leafs.

I think it's only 5 if you count OT loses lol. I think he did a great job, it was good to see him in a positive manner at his PC.

I hope Maurice keeps his job...this mess isn't his fault. The only person who REALLY derserved to get canned in T-dot is Peddie...but that will never happen.

I don't think Paul should be kept as Head Coach...maybe assistant...who is Peddie...Never heard of him...

My sarcasm radar is way off...not sure if you are serious...

Richard Peddie...the guy from Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment that has caused all this shit (at least from my perspective looking in).

This guy:

Not to be confused with this guy:

I think Paul Maurice is a great coach..and i hate the leafs. no way this guy should ever be an assistant in the NHL. I think he'll have a great GM career when hes done with coaching, very well spoken individual.

I don't know, but I tend to think the Leafs need to clean house. They've traded/drafted/signed a bunch of players and a large majority of them have been busts. Just check the current roster to see what I'm talking about...

Plus, I don't think Maurice is good as a coach. They need to just trade Sundin for high draft picks and young guns with a ton of potential, it's time for a re-building season.

I love how people say the Leafs need to clean house. No shit, it's obvious, but how? No one's going to take McCabe's contract (and I think he has a no movement clause); Kaberle's got an NTC that I'm not sure is in effect this year, plus they really shouldn't let him go; Sundin's got an NTC and may not take being moved anywhere, if anyone even really goes after him.

I see this playing out where Sundin either doesn't move anywhere because teams will be apathetic about offering anything to TO just because of being put off by the NTC. I hope that's not the case, but that's what I see as a likely possibility.

I think Kaberle's NTC has a stipulation where the Leafs could move him during the summer if they don't make the playoffs, or something similar. Even though he is having a sub-par year, I think he could get as much, if not more in return than Sundin. He is a great puck moving defenseman, and his contract is great (something like 3 more years of $4.25 mil). Still, I wouldn't trade him.

Yeah, they'll get a good amount for him I just think that'd be the last person they should move. To think of them moving Kaberle and being stuck with McCabe makes me want to scream.

I think they need to package McCabe and Kaberle for a few picks or some prospects. Even if they have NTC's, I honestly think they would waive them. Trade Sundin too and get a TON in return. Toskala is a decent enough starter to keep for a while, rebuild forwards + defense. Sorry, but I can't be more specific :D
