How can I tell if my skates are 'breaking down?'

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've had one90's for a while (2 seasons, 7 days a week) and recently they've been feeling like they lost their stiffness and are causing pain right at the curve of the eyelets every time I skate foreward. Would this mean they are 'breaking down,' and what exactly does the term mean?

What it means is the skate has softened up due to wear and perspiration build up over time. It then will not give you proper support and make manoevering and thrust more difficult as the skate gets worse until you get to the point where the skate gets absolutely useless and will actually fall apart.Your blade holder could actually come off the outsole and cause some serious injury if you are unaware of the condition it is in.

Where is the pain? On the front of your ankle? Where? If it is there, and in the eyelet curve area, it could be that your tongue is thinning out there and you are getting some lacebite.

I should have been clearer, it is on the inside of my foot, about 1" below the curve of the eyelet. It sucks because I'm a good skater, but it's making me feel like an ankle bender.
