Standardised Testing

Recommended Posts

what i think is that it's not fair for a teacher to grade your writing portion on how 'good' it is when it's subjective. What if they never 'get into' the story but it's still really good. They'll probably give it a bad mark compared to someone with a different set of opinions and tastes who ends up really liking your style of writing. so it's basically just the luck of the draw in who you get to correct your exam.

the theme for our exam was "fairness". i wrote an article about 'unfair advantages in sports, part of the game?'. in my opinion i thought it was the best piece of work i had ever written but what if my marker didnt like sports and didn't get into it?

Now that's strange. Standardized testing usually implies multiple choice, and it seems to cover more basic understanding, comprehension, and reasoning. An essay would be more involved and creative, and that doesn't flow with the normal standardized tests. Not saying it's wrong, but just different. Not to mention the PC implications of a test centered around "fairness."

PC? i just realised that it's really ironic that im complaining about an exam about fairness.

No multiple choice on ours. We read 12 or so stories and poems or whatever and then we had to answer questions about them. Then we wrote the 'writing portion' where we chose a writing style of our choice.

that's what ours was. i dont know how it can be 'standardised' if the markers are different for everyones exams.
