Skates are too big what to do

Recommended Posts

My wife bought me skates a few years back for Christmas, they were from a LHS but on clearance. 852 Tacks. I tried them on prior to having them put into the fit system, and after the FIT system they seem to be slightly too big. I like my skates to feel a bit tight or at least have my toes graze the cap. I plan on buying new skates in the next 6-8mos. but until then is there anything I can do to take up the volume in the skates. I wear a thick sock right now and that helps, plus I just got my gray superfeet today so well see if that helps. Any other suggestions. They are about .25 to .5 too big for me.

Ask her if it's okay to sell them and get new ones!

I just went from a skate that was half a size too big and too narrow to one that is the right size, and it made a world of difference. In a skate too big, your foot can slide around inside, and that makes it hard to feel and control the edges. And a thick sock dampens the feel of the edges for me as well.

went from Vapor 7's (10D) to Vapor 25's (8.5ee)

7's worked (for skating) until I started to play more hockey

then they were WAY too big

didn't try to fill the volume, just bought new skates

other than multiple socks or tying them REALLY tight not sure :(

you'll grow into them?

.25 too big really isn't that big of a deal(unless your paul coffey of course), .5 is pushing it...have you tried bigger socks?

How did the Superfeet footbeds work out-I couldn't fit them in my skates as they took away volume. Sales guy showed me the superfeet brochure says they compress a bit-hope not too much in your case.

my rbk 4k and 5k '07 inline skates are a size 10. My LHS didn't carry half sizes of the rbk '07 inlines. The 9 was way to small and the 10 is slightly big. Sometimes I wear a thicker sock but I don't like it much. So I just deal with it. oh well.

Thanks for all the input. I have tried the thicker sock and tying them really tight and that works ok. I think that will be a good temporary solution until I can buy new skates that fit perfect.

I have not skated in the superfeet yet, I have some ice time on Friday so Ill let you know how they work, from just trying them on in the house they feel great, I am flat footed so these add additonal support to my feet. I did not have to trim them to fit, I bought the mens 9.5-11 size and they fit perfect into the CCM 10. The width was fine too. I also did not notice much of a volume change with these, but I have a little room in my skate so that could be the difference. There is a slight heel lift on them, this is perfect for me as I have alwasy felt like I am on my heels too much with the tacks.

Can't wait till friday to try them out on the ice.
