Help with choosing skate

I've trying to find a good bargain on some skates, and dont want to spend too much, but need a stiff boot.

I found a Mission Flyweight and a CCM Tacks 762.

any idea on what year those skates are from and which might be a better overall skate...???

I think they are both from 2001 give or take a year.

i had the flyweights, but a stiffer model.

I loved them. . . they were probably my favorite skates I've skated in other than my pair of Euro 709's that were heavenly and I should have never sold.

Yeah try them on if you can. Best way to decide things.

I have (used as a back up pair now) those exact Flyweights. They are excellent skates for the money provided they fit you well. I purchased them on clearance 6 years ago when I switched from roller to ice. They have held up exceptionally well with the exception of the holders which one of them cracked after blocking a shot (I replaced mine with T'Blades). In terms of stiffness I find they are kind of middle of the road; much better than the CCM 752 Tacks I had before them, put not nearly as stiff as the Synergy 1500C's I am in now.

am i missing out on anything by buying a skate thats new, but 6 years old?

Yea...You're missing out on 6 years of R&D.

Just be sure to try on whatever skate you buy. It took me countless hours of trying on skates to find a pair that fit well.

yea a lot has changed with skates over the past 6 years.

I'm personally not a big fan of newer skates because they are so damn stiff . . . i just can't get used to them.

But like a few other guys have said, you've got to try on the skates and see if they fit well. . . its just not worth ordering skates online site unseen with never even putting the skate on your foot. . . i know from experience
