Oggie Grip 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 There used to be a rink on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury. Not sure if it's still there. Go there and ask if they got a signup sheet for subs. It's a good start and you can play with a few different teams until you meet the group of guys that you can click with, and maybe get on a team full-time. Roche Bros. bought it I think, and it was totally done over, looks great now. Most of the DCR rinks in the city have their own leagues that shouldn't be too hard to get into. Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Join the Mass Skaters Yahoo groupThis is how I found my new beer league team when I moved back to Boston this past fall. It's a great way to also get notifications for various pickup skates in the area.
Taoism 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Hockeytown in Saugus on rt 1 south has a few different leagues and some teams are always looking for players. decent skill level there, a bit chippy and there are some run of the mill beer leaguew assholes though. Hockey North america used to run some leagues in Mass as well. They make you do a tryout so they can place you on a team with people of like skill level. think it was 480 a season last time I participated and it was a lot of fun. Got to skate in a lot of rinks I never would have known existed. The league playoffs between the champs from all the different locations they serve and the finals are held in Montreal if I remember correctly.
AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 NESHL has evaluation sessions regularly... 9 out of 10 times, they don't even "place" on a team, they'll just make a C/D league team of everyone who showed up for the eval session.
Kevin 5 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 There is always Sat. night pick-up at Hockey Town 10-12 for $10. There are almost always two goalies, but lots of young (high school) punks. AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I'm not sure what part of Boston you're in, or outskirts or whatever... but Quincy Youth Arena has drop in every Monday-Friday from 10:30am-12:30 for just $5....$5 to skate on the best ice on the South Shore is a great deal. QYH has good ice, but I've always been partial to my shitty inner city MDC/DCR rinks.

ddbowdoin 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 thanks for all the infoI wanted to join the NESHL but they are currently in their winter season, have to wait for the spring. I'm worried about that happening to me, not being placed. The league runs around 600 bucks so I really want to get my moneys worth, playing at a C level would be fun to just dangle and what not but I want to go out there and just have my 45 second shift of glory and get back to the bench. I'm going to miss the contact though, I'll lose a lot of my game moving into these leagues, damn.
Kevin 5 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 I think the summer for NESHL should be cheaper than $600--probably in the $400-$500 range for an individual player. The league website is down right now, so I cannot check it.The price is cheaper if you are on a team, as opposed to joining the league as an individual player. The commissioner will email a list of all available players to the team managers-it's hit or miss. However, I think it's easier to get on a team in the summer than in the winter.Did you play at Bowdoin? If so, you should not play C level.

There's still plenty of contact and accountability. In the spring teams always need to add players.
