fibula pain on left leg

Recommended Posts

I don't skate often anymore (4-8 times per month) but when I do I'm having skate problems. My graf 705s were too stiff to lock my foot in the way I like when I wasn't skating every day anymore so I went to hockey giant and bought a pair of mission s400s last year. They seemed to be breaking in fine at first but after six skates in them they started giving me intense pain in my left fibula, so much pain that I couldn't stand up in them. The irritating thing is they feel like money on my right foot.

Has anyone else had problems with this or does anyone have ideas how to remedy this?

Thanks.

Could that cause the pain? I don't know if one's longer than the other. Even if I just tie the left skate and stay sitting down it hurts. Standing up or skating just makes it worse.

I think it's the malleolus--it's on the tip of where it sticks out and it continues just below the tip.

Among other things, it could be bursitis or (much worse) a burgeoning bone spur.

Get to a doctor (ideally a chiropodist or podiatrist) ASAP, and bring your skates with you.

Looking into the leg-length issue could be beneficial as well.

Could it possibly be a really bad case of lacebite? I had it once and it hurt for anything to touch it. Sounds sort of like what flip12 has. However mine went away after staying off the skates for a week, maybe you are going to have to get yourself a different pair of skates?

I've only had minor lace bite pain before, but this doesn't feel like that. Whenever I had lace bite it affected the front of my ankle and this pain is on the side. I don't know if lace bite always affects the front of the ankle but it always has on me.

I hope I don't have to get a different pair of skates, I really like the cut of the boot, how it locks the foot where it meets the ankle. That's where it feels so good in the right foot. It seems like my left fibula must come down a little bit lower because it doesn't seem to hit the bulge in the skate for the ankle bones.

two things... see a doctor like law goalie said (with your skates), and explore getting the boot punched out. i've got screws through my tibia (had a bi-malleolar fracture)... the pressure from the padding is brutal so I had it punched out. Feels great, now.

O.K. I'll go to the skate shop and see about punching it out. I should have said this before, but I can't go to the doctor because I just finished school and I don't have a job yet, I have no health insurance.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Yeah, get it punched. The best thing to do is to put the boot on, lace it up, then use a marker on the outside of the skate to show where the pain is concentrated. That'll give the shop something to work with.

You're lucky, in that the pain is so quick to appear that you'll be able to tell right in the shop whether it worked or not, and you can have them make further adjustments as needed.
