Help finding a skate that fits

Recommended Posts

I have been to my LHS and tried on almost every pair they had. Unfortunately they had a limited selection in my size. They all seemed to hurt one area or another. I tried sending my info to Pro Skate but never received a response. The closest seemed to be the Bauer Vapor XXXX's in a 5.5EE. Even with the wide skate I can feel pressure/discomfort on the outside edge of my foot (just down from the toe). If I knew this would go away or break in I would go with the Vapors but I'm not sure. Also, after wearing them for about 45 minutes and walking around my heels started to hurt. Should skates fit with no pressure points/discomfort anywhere? I'm at a loss because I really don't know what to try next.

I can post the pictures and drawings I sent to Pro Skate if they would help.

Thanks.

Scott

What different brands and models of skate did you try?

Not to take away from the main subject but a quick question that's sort of on topic:

Is it common or ever necessary to put shoe inserts/orthodics in a skate?

I have flat feet so it is a must for me. PM me for more answers if needed. now back on topic

I've tried Bauer, Easton, RBK, and CCM. I don't believe they had any Grafs in my size.

It's going to matter which Bauer/Easton/RBK/CCM you tried. In the Nike/Bauer, there is a different fit between the Vapor, Supreme/One90, and the Flexlite.

You are going to have to be more specific in terms of what you have tried on for the more knowledgable guys to come in and give you some advice.

Also, you the search feature as much as possible. I've seen a ton of threads regarding skate fittiment so you might be able to find an answer that has already been posted to your question.

I've literally tried on at least 10 different skates including the following:

Bauer Supreme 50's in a size 6

Bauer One90's in a 5

Bauer Vapor XXV's in a 5.5

Bauer Vapor XXXX's in a 5.5

Bauer Vapor XXXX's in a 5.5EE

RBK 5's and 7's (also in a 6 I believe)

Easton Synergy 1500 in a 5, 5.5, and 6. Also tried on a few lower end pair of Eastons.

CCM's in a 6 I believe (not sure which model)

The problem has been finding something in a 5.5 or a 5.5 wide. There is really only one LHS in my area and their selection has been very limited and I haven't had much luck with them ordering stuff in. This is my first time buying hockey skates and I just don't know what to expect. Should I feel no pressure or discomfort or am I expecting too much. I also expected them to measure my foot but the experience pretty much began with them throwing skates at me to see if they fit. I have no idea if I have a wide foot, low arch, high arch, etc... since no measurement was done. If I knew the Vapor XXXX's that I have now would break in at the outside part of the foot then I think I would keep them but it's a pretty expensive mistake if they don't work out. I would post the pics I sent to Pro Skate but I don't appear to have the ability to attach pictures.
