Ottawa Senators 07-08

Recommended Posts

So I saw some threads for some other teams, but none for the Sens so I figured I'd start one ... anyways good to see the big line healthy and reunited tonite, hopefully this means the Sens of the first 20 games or so are back

Do you guys think this is Emery's chance to run with the #1 spot? I almost feel bad that Gerber is sitting because his record is pretty good this year, but as long as we keep winning I guess it doesn't matter

Cheers

I thought paddock was just switching between the two tenders. If you win you keep playing, as soon as you lose you sit.

It was my understanding that he's doing "Win and you stay in" as well.

Gotta tell ya, the Heatley/Alfie/Spezza line looked fired up last night...Or did Montreal really play them so badly that it looked that easy!

Either way...that line is back in a BIG way. Yikes!

Yeah, they're still playing the "Win, stay in" game.

The ASH line was flying - it wasn't that Montreal played them badly (they actually played them very well on most shifts) or that Huet choked (he had no chance on any but the second, and even that is a tougher shot to stop than you'd think). They were passing beautifully, but not overpassing, the finish was wicked... just awesome stuff.

That said, Joe Corvo makes me nervous as hell. Despite some really pretty plays, he made some truly incredibly bad ones.

I'm also a little alarmed at how little was generated by the other three lines. I think Paddock would rather re-unite the Vermette-Fisher-Eaves line when Eaves gets back, but Vermette's so good on faceoffs they need him centering the third line.

Emery looked solid, but he's still fighting the puck *and* fighting the technique. Last year he looked loose all the way to the Finals, where he tightened up a bit. Now he looks less like Muhammed Ali than Goerge Foreman lurching around the crease.

Emery's gotta realise that just comes with the territory when you're in the public eye. But, it is Ray

Anyways, what's the word on Foppa? Sens still in on him?

Yeah Montreal was a bit unlucky last night, like 4-5 posts/crossbars...but that being said Ottawa was on its game and with that line clicking like it was, its tough to stop.

Interesting article on Emery this morning...he says he feels like hes being unfairly targeted by the cops

Check it out http://www.ottawasun.com/News/OttawaAndReg...838029-sun.html

If only I could get a newpaper article everytime I felt "unfairly" treated by a cop...I would famous.

I agreee with everything you said, but I really like Corvo. If somehow he could stop making one horrible play every three games or so he would be solid. I would say he is probably the most technically skilled skater and stickhandler on the team.

Ray Emery will be the goalie Tuesday when the Senators host the Philadelphia Flyers at Scotiabank Place.

It marks the first time since Jan. 24 that coach John Paddock will stray from the 'win-and-you're-in' method of determining his starter.

"I think there are a few different things that go into it, I don't even want to get into," Paddock said of the decision after today's practice. "I thought the goaltending was fine last game."

Another stinker of a game tonight in Boston

You knew Boston was going to come out flying with a shit ton of confidence...their GM was confident enough in them, as a team, to not move anyone. I knew they would come out flying tonight...just had a feeling.

Then sens really have to make some changes, i think they should get rid of Paddock and i would start to give Emery the start more then Gerber, i was not impressed at all with Gerber last night yelling at Volchekov on the bench, it showed no class and it shows he gets rattled easily when his team is losing, even though the goal was Volchenkovs fault.

EDIT: Paddock is fired and Murray is now is replacement

Its about time that Paddock gets the axe...I think the players lost confidence in him a while back...hopefully Murray can right the ship and get them playing like they played in the earlier rounds of the playoffs last year

Agreed, you can't have a coach who the players do not like and will not play for him. With Murray back behind the bench i think Ottawa will start too pick it up in the last part of the season because they have the talent and now they have the coaching as well.

They were just in a little slump thats all, I think Emery will start to be more confident in net, and now that Murray is back , I think that it is the shakeup that was needed to get the team playing again

I have heard rumors that Ray Emery has been doing crack! Anybody heard this

No, I haven't. Alfie has 2 points in his last 7 or 8 games, until he scores, this team isn't going to win a whole lot. I think they need to permanently keep together the CASH line, and deal with having a mediocre second line and nothing else.

just heard on TSN that the sens tried to make a trade with the hawks on the deadline. Get this:

Gerber and Emery for Khabibulin and Lalime

That was a pretty crazy purposal by the Sens, i don't think i have ever seen a trade involving both starting goalies for two teams before.
