RBK 6k helmet

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I did a search and couldnt find anything relavent to what I was going to ask so here goes.

I just purchased a new RBK 6k helmet, I saw a 4k helmet at Dicks Sporting goods and just for kicks tried it on, the fit wasnt so bad, but that helmet felt pretty cheesey as far as protection goes. Is the 6k the same as far as the flimseyness of the helmet is concerned or is it a bit better? For me comming from a Bauer 4000, the 4k just didnt seem to have the same heft to it. I have read the RBK helmets are light, and maybe this is why they are flimsey feeling. Also on the 4k the fit clip felt really flimsey, hopefully the 6k is a little better. With so many NHL, AHL and ECHL players using this helmet I figured hey there has to be something to this helmet and am willing to give it a shot. So I guess for you 6k owners, likes & Dislikes? I dont have a LHS here anymore, so I dont get the chance to try on stuff before I buy, so I was going on a guess that the 6k is a bit sturdier than the 4k.

thanks,

Casey

Coming from a Bauer 4000 myself, the RBK helmets fit completely differently. They were too round and the helmet didn't touch my head on the sides when adjusted for length.

This was the 6 and 8k, never tried the 4 on. I assumed they fit similar and my LHS didn't have any big ones.

I was wearing a 4000 XL opened about 4 clicks, now I'm in a Vector Large opened fully, snug as a bug and solved the issue I had with the 4000 slipping down at the brow and slightly chafing my forehead.

One rule I live by is when it comes to cranial protection- fit twice, buy once. Improperly fitting helmets can do more harm than good. Make sure wherever you buy from has a good return policy.

First of all, the reason why you see everyone in the AHL and ECHL using them is because they have to.. They dont have a choice, its either RBK or RBK for them. They are only allowed to have so many players on each team using non RBK products according to their contracts. 4k helmet is going to be similar to the old CCM ht2 helmet. 6k is the next step up offering a little more protection with a different style padding

Guys,

Thanks for the input. Surprisingly I just got my helmet and new pants in the mail today, very quick service from Hockey1 AKA. South Windsor Arena, this is the second time I have ordered from them and their service has been tops!

Anyhow Got my helmet out of the box, felt way more durable than the 4k helmet, actually I didnt notice that much difference in feel to that of my old Bauer 5000. Fit: I have a round head, so the fit is perfect, I bought a large, and when clamped down to the smallest setting fits me snug, I prefer helmets being pushed in than pulled out to my size PP. The padding inside is very comfortable, alot more comfortable than the bauer 5000 I had, and thats why originally I switched to the 4000, untill my son took over the helmet and it was time for a new one.

Anyhow love the helmet, just wasnt expecting to have it this soon. for those looking for a 6k helmet hockey1 has them for $69, most sites are selling them at $85, so its a pretty good deal. Which also makes me wonder, the new 08' RBK catalogue only has the 8k helmet listed, I wonder if they are discontinuing the 4k and 6k? Oh well got mine.

I know they have to use RBK or CCM products, didnt know only so many could use CCM products besides RBK. Although the local ECHL team the Elmira Jackals, most of the players are using Vector sticks, not the RBK sticks. Everything else is RBK though.
