Which B's fans were watching NESN tonight pre game?

Recommended Posts

I'm pumped for the B's, I've been a huge fan ever since I was 5 years old but living in Boston has been a rough period for hockey. I like the sox and the pats, definately get all juiced up when they win but if someone asks me what I'd do for tickets to the world series or SB I wouldnt give up much

if the B's keep on their pace I'd give up more for a ticket to a 1st round playoff game then anything for the world series!

go B's!!!

agreed, although I am very much a sox fan, I can't stand the whole redsox nation fad, mostly because the people who call themselves part of "the nation" are the same ones with the pink hats and can't name more that 4-5 players on the team. nothing ticks me off more than when are fans because it is fashionable.

Living in Boston, I don't think you have the perspective to realize just how big Red Sox Nation is, although there is no doubt that some people have jumped on the bandwagon the last four years.

Since 1979, I've seen the Sox almost every year in different locations: Seattle, Oakland, Anaheim, San Diego, Denver, NY, Baltimore and Fenway. Even before the WS, the Nation was noticeably growing, particularly the "Let's Go, Red Sox!" chant. When they came to Coors Field in 2004, I said , "Man, the Rockies fans have no idea what they're in for." Sure enough, the LGRS chant started and the Rockies' fans started booing, because they were appalled a visiting team could infest their stadium so much. That continued throughout the game, just as I had seen happen in other cities even before 2004.

I also think people are lacking perspective on the pink hats. Many people connote them with a sign of bandwagon fans, since they've really popped up since the WS, but I don't remember them being widely available before the WS. I'm pretty confident we would have seen a lot of women wearing the pink back in 1998 if it had been around. Again, it's not necessarily a sign of someone who doesn't know the team. My 8-year-old daughter was telling us who was next in the batting order during the playoffs -- something The Big D vowed she'd do at our wedding, which she broke, although she says it has something to do with my vow about folding laundry.... Anyway, my daughter would rather wear pink than blue.

The term "Red Sox Nation" was originally meant to describe how the Sox have devoted fans across the country (eg. I heard there is a red sox themed bar in Cali). I've got no problem with that, I just hate how much that simple phrase has been so overused by the media and fans. I guess it shouldn't be that big a deal, but to be a true Red Sox fan you have to know what it was like for all those years when we had nothing, and the US was Yankeeland. Granted I'm only 19, and I wasn't alive to see '67, '75, or '86. I can only imagine how bad it was.

It just ticks me off when someone who knows little to nothing about baseball calls themself a fan, when I see my grandfather spend 83 years of his life (born in 1921) watching the red sox EVERY DAY to finally see a World Series victory.

Regarding the pink hats: as long as I can remember you could just walk into a Lids store in Mass and get a Sox hat in whatever color you like. I associate the pink hat idea with the people who are fans because it is fashionable...ie. they wear the hat to match their outfit, meaning they are fans because it's trendy. I go to a Boston school with people from everywhere, so trust me, I see alot of this. I admit I am being too general when using that term to describe a type of fan. There are certainly real fans who wear pink, orange, green, yellow, and purple Red Sox hats out there.

whew! sorry, I needed to vent a little there. ;)

you guys have impeccable timing, with the whole "Yankee country" vs "Red Sox Nation" fiasco going on amongst Steinbrenner II, and Henry

I would have to agree... I asked a friend "why pink?" and the reaction was "this one was way cuter than the blue one.." which just made me shake my head. I feel the same way about other pink team apparel. The combination of the logo, and team colors is what wearing the stuff is all about in the first place. Pink Bruins jerseys, or Celtics caps?? bah!!
