Heel Lifts vs. Profiling

Recommended Posts

I've searched and read plenty about both methods of changing pitch, but couldn't really find the answer I was looking for so forgive me if I over looked it.

Between profiling and adding heel lifts, which is the most consistent/reliable way to give you the forward pitch? The reason I ask is that I have one good LHS in my area that does a great job on skates, however they are not at the rink I play at and whenever I get them sharpened in a pinch at the rink they completely destroy my profile. So I'm thinking heel lifts would help partially resolve this problem as I wouldn't have to worry about the rink screwing up the forward pitch, just hope they could keep the proper radius for once. Basically I'm trying to mistake-proof my skates from the rink guys.

Thanks

Both methods are going to do the same thing, but with lifts it's going to be cheaper, easier to change if you need higher or lower and you're going to save steel

If you put heel lifts in and a bad sharpener ruins your profile, you still will have to have the steel profiled to correct it. If your rink sharpener puts a reverse pitch on them, the effect of the lifts will be offset. It's a no win situation. If you choose lifts, you must have a good sharpener or you'll be profiling anyway to correct it.

Thats kind of what I figured. I guess I'm just SOL, these guys at the rink are terrible. Last time I had them do my skates and I went back to the regular shop, the guys showed me the rink had turned my 11' profile to something that was longer than 14'. I've got to figure some way to do touch ups when I can't get to the LHS and only have time to go to the rink.
