Possible to return skates

Recommended Posts

Anyone had any experience in trying to return worn skates. I bought a pair of Graf 705's about a month ago and they felt great in the store. After about 4 weeks I've come to realize that I probably bought them a size too small. My left foot is smaller than my right so I went down a size so my smaller foot wasn't swimming in the boot. But now, my toes are just killing me by about halfway through a game.

It wasn't the LHS' fault but I hate to eat $400 skates. Should I even bother calling them or am I out of luck. Any recourse through Graf? Thanks.

I think it is possible to get boots stretched, not sure if all boots like composite boots...but I would imagine the Graf 7 series of skates would fit in the category of skates you can have stretched. I'm sure someone else would know a lot more about this then me.

with 7 posts, he won't be selling anything here.

Does your LHS offer a return policy? I know a few here offer 30 days, as long as they aren't beat to hell

Go back to your LHS and explain your problem. They will most likely work on your skates and get them to where they will work for you. If they have fitted you improperly, you may find that they will indeed help you out after they have tried to remedy the situation.

I think that there are a ton of people out there skating in skates that are the correct size but have one small problem with them, that often could be relieved with a little more work on the skate.

That boot can be stretched. The Ultra 5 would be a little more difficult. Need a half size or something? A half size is 4mm

adding superfeet can reduce length as well, maybe a thinner sock?

my skates dont fit with a normal sock on, and obviously i dont know what type of sock you wear, but just purely suggestions

No LHS or Internet shop that I know of will take back skates once baked or even sharpened....its just the way it is for years. Thats why buying skates is such a "anxious" experience frought with anticipation, joy and unfortunatly sometimes frustration and depression - just like the game itself.

I just bought some Nike Bauer Vapor XXV's this weekend, I tried them on and there was a pinch in the toebox - but the guy said baking would fix that. I was anxious - I left them on for 15 minutes - before I made the plunge and had them baked - I knew then there was "no looking back" - After the bake the fit good - but later that night when the skates fully cooled, the pinch was back. So I took them into the LHS and they punched them in the toe area "on the house" - Free.

They fit good now, but I have not skated in them yet - because just today playing open hockey with my old skates I took a puck to the ankle and it swelled up - So it will be 1 or 2 weeks before I prolly play again.

Good luck on your skates...you will prolly take a loss on resale - but just chalk it up as "tution" in the "school of hard knocks"...
